Theme to Professor Pugnacious, composed and performed by Brent Hengeveld. A two minute mp3.
Download a pdf of the rulebook. You can also check out some variant versions of the game. Note: my biggest regret with this project was not hiring an editor for the rulebook. I will not make this mistake with future games, you can be guaranteed of that! In the meantime, check below for answers to most of your questions, or click the little email icon above to ask me anything that isn’t listed here.
What happens when I run out of cards in my deck?
Shuffle your discard pile, turn it over so the cards are face down, and that becomes your new deck. I can’t believe I left this out of the rules. It’s implied by a few different sentences, but never outright stated. That’s a huge oversight on my part, and I sincerely apologize. Not hiring an editor for the rulebook is probably my biggest regret in this project, and a mistake I will definitely not make again.
When I set up for a game with 2, 3, or 4 players, how many Card Queues should there be in the Card Ring?
Each player has their own 5 card Card Queue. That means that if you’re playing with 2 players, there should be a total of 10 cards in the Card Ring. With 3, there should be 15, and with 4, there should be 20.
Can I use Travis’ 10 Ton Trebuchet to defeat the Finale?
No. The Trebuchet can only target Adversaries, so you cannot use it to defeat the Finale, Training Dummy, or a Trap.
How does Collaborate work?
Collaborate stays in play for two turns. On the first turn, the player who played it draws 3 cards. On the second turn, all other players draw 1.
When do Class abilities happen, or when can I use them?
All Class abilities that must be activated can only be used during the Play Cards phase of the turn, and can only be used once per turn. Think of it as always having one card with that ability in your hand.
If something ends the game, do we finish the turn?
Yes. If anything would end the game, such as buying a card when the Main Deck is empty, the game continues until the end of that turn’s Recovery Phase.
How does the Flying Machine work?
The Flying Machine has the normal ability of Draw 1: when you play it, you draw one new card. In addition, you may choose to trash it: if you do so, you draw 3 more cards right away.
Are the Zombie and Sky Pirate cards really supposed to be in the Main Deck?
Yes. The Sky Pirate swoops down from above and disrupts your ability to do work or research and you have to fend her off (or at least convince her it’s more worth her time to go bother someone else). You find zombies lurking where you would least expect it, and if you don’t take care of them quickly, this army of the undead can overwhelm you and bring the city to a standstill!
How does The Noose Tightens work?
Discard the rightmost two cards (three, if The Noose Tightens is replacing Windfall as the active Event) in each Card Queue. If you’re playing with Armies of the Undead, I recommend not discarding Zombies this way. If there are 4 or more Zombies in a given Queue, then that Queue has 4 or more cards until enough Zombies are killed, then it only has 3.
